Kuranda AttractionsSo Much To See & Do

Kuranda’s attractions provide visitors the chance to connect with nature, meet some of Australia’s favourite animals and explore the rainforest. The wildlife parks and river boat operate 7 days a week and most of Kuranda’s cafés, galleries and retail shops, in Coondoo and Therwine Streets, are open everyday.

The attractions are accessible for people of all abilities, interests and ages. From cuddling a koala, to feeding kangaroos, macaws and parrots, being surrounded by butterflies and taking a cruise on the Barron River, you can do it all in Kuranda. Want to head off the beaten track? Explore our beautiful surrounds on one of the many rainforest walks.

Don’t forget our world famous markets, and there are two of them – the Kuranda Heritage Markets [open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 3.30pm] and the Original Rainforest Markets [open Wednesday to Sunday 10am – 3pm and on Mondays, if it’s during school holidays or is a public holiday]. These markets offer excellent shopping, with an amazing array of art, craft, souvenirs, jewellery and so much more, as well as tempting, tasty treats. In fact, there’s so much to see and do at Kuranda that one day is never enough, so check in to the local Honey Bee House for an overnight stay.

How to get to Kuranda

Self Drive

Drive your own vehicle or hire a car. Kuranda is a 15 minutes drive from Smithfield roundabout, Kennedy Highway. There is FREE ALL DAY PARKING on Thoree Street. To get there, continue down Rob Veivers Drive to first roundabout, turn right
(second exit) into Thoree Street. Car park entrance is on the right.

Coach Day Tours

There’s three coach day tours which will bring you to Kuranda. Down Under Tours packages include Skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway, book online or call 4047 9066. Skyrail Cableway

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a scenic way to visit Kuranda, gliding just metres above the rainforest, with two mid-stations providing the opportunity to explore more with Ranger guided tours and interpretive signage. Kuranda Railway

Kuranda Scenic Railway is another scenic way to get to and from Kuranda. The scenic rail journey to Kuranda passes spectacular waterfalls and into the stunning Barron Gorge. It departs Cairns Station at 8.30am and Freshwater Station at 8.55am, in the afternoon it departs Kuranda at 3.30pm to return to Cairns. Phone: 1800 577 24.
