Kuranda Koala Gardens is a boutique wildlife park, featuring some of Australia’s favourite animals. It’s also one of the few places in North Queensland where you can pat a koala for a souvenir photo, or if you are feeling more adventurous, hold a python for another memorable photo (conditions apply, extra cost). The park itself has been thoughtfully designed to create natural habitats for each of its residents. The freshwater crocodiles enjoy a large pool, which you can view from elevated boardwalks and also at ground level. While the Aussie Bush Collection is home to a fascinating mixture of our native animals including koalas, eastern water dragons, blue tongue lizards and more. There are free roaming kangaroos, pademelons and wallabies, which you can hand feed during your visit, and everyone adores the lovable wombats and cute quokkas. You can learn more about them at the Marsupial Presentation at 2pm.
Kuranda Koala Gardens also contains Far North Queensland’s first walk-through nocturnal exhibit. Here you can discover some of the ‘creatures of the night’, including possums, frogmouths, bettongs and bilbies. Learn more about them at the Nocturnal Presentation, which is held daily at 10.30am. There’s also turtles, snakes, monitors, geckoes and frogs, all waiting to meet you at Kuranda Koala Gardens. You can even learn about the construction of the Kuranda railway and the early timber industry, in the Pioneer Display. Kuranda Koala Gardens is located inside the Kuranda Heritage Markets, which is on Rob Veivers Drive. There is no minimum or maximum time limit that you can spend at Kuranda Koala Gardens, so allow enough time to enjoy all of the animals and attend the free Wildlife Keeper presentations.
